Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library Images

These images related to JSU's history were digitized and generously provided by the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library. All are from ACCPL's archival collections, and many originate with a collection of glass negatives from the Russell Brothers Studio. The three Russell brothers opened their studio in the 1880s, documenting local life and personalities over several decades through tens of thousands of photos. The Russell brothers were used by President C.W. Daugette for both institutional and personal photographs. Many Jacksonville State students also chose to use them for graduation and yearbook photos. When the last Russell brother died in the 1940s, the studio, located on Noble Street in Anniston, was taken over by Lance Johnson as the Lance Johnson Studio. Johnson's son, photographer Jim Johnson, donated over 30,000 Russell Brothers negatives to Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library.
