Description
This is a negative made of an earlier portrait. The negative was labeled "Mrs. W.C. Daughette" [sic]; this label was probably given to the negative by Russell Brothers Studio because Mrs. C.W. (Annie Rowan Forney) Daugette brought them the original image (probably in the 1920s-1930s) to reproduce. Based on the clothing and hairstyle, the original image is likely mid-1800s (circa 1840-1850). Based on comparison with other photos, sitter may be Martha McGehee Pelham (1808-1876). Dr. Charles Atkinson Pelham (1797-1880) was her husband. They were the parents of Major John Pelham (1838-1863), known as "The Gallant Pelham."
