The scrapbook focuses on the six French students on the JSTC campus and their interactions with and teaching French language and culture to American students. The other main focus of the book is the visit to campus and presentation given by Henri Bonnet, France's ambassador to the United States and the start of construction on an International House building to replace the French House.

This inaugural scrapbook details the beginning of Jacksonville State Teachers College's International House program, led by James H. Jones, a professor of French. The scrapbook contains publications about France's economic situation immediately following WWII, photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and more. The program began with four French students brought to the college to interact with and teach French to American students. Other French individuals, such as Andree Alvernhe and Felicie Astrue, were brought over from France to allow students to experience French cuisine and culture.

This scrapbook and photo album (two volumes; see Additional Files for photo album) were compiled by Marie Louise Stevens while she was enrolled as a student at Jacksonville State Teachers College. According to her daughter, Kathy Guild, Ms. Stevens, from Bessemer, AL, was the first person in her family to attend college. She began compiling the scrapbook circa 1939 during her first year at Jacksonville State Teachers College. She dropped out and enrolled in the WAC and served during World War II. She returned to JSTC and received her degree circa 1948.

Biographical information about Iris Sellers may be found in the book Iron Butterfly by Terry Sellers, Jr. (2008), pp. 102-106. The scrapbook contains photographs, illustrations, poems, newspaper clippings, invitations, announcement flyers, postcards, letters, pins, dried flowers, napkins, etc.
