Abstract
This collection contains typewritten and manuscript documents compiled by Hilda Dean Williams Norton (1920-2012), who was an Instructor in JSU’s Department of English beginning in 1965. Norton was a Calhoun County native who graduated from Jacksonville State College with a bachelor’s degree in 1941 and a master’s degree in 1965. She taught in the Gadsden City and Etowah County school systems before her tenure at JSU, which lasted 46 years, ending with her death in 2012. Norton taught until she was 91 years of age, making her the oldest still-teaching university faculty member in the state of Alabama at the time.
The materials consist primarily of her lecture notes, tests and quizzes, and some student essays, newspaper clippings, and other works.
