The Jacksonville State University ROTC Gamecock Battalion held its summer commissioning ceremony on August 7, 1998 in Rowe Hall. These cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants: Christen J. Brown (Field Artillery), Claudia Castillo (Military Intelligence Corps), Carlos G. Fiol (Military Intelligence Corps), Jolanda L.J. Gardner (Medical Corps), Ellis C. Monk (Infantry), Manuel F. Ramirez-Torres (Chemical Corps).
