Description
Pete Mathews graduated from JSU in 1939 and the University of Alabama in 1952. He was a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the State Senate (1963-1967), a member of the House of Representatives (1967-1975), and is the only man in the history of State government to serve as Chairman of the Finance Committees in both the House and Senate. Mathews was awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Jacksonville State University in 1990. Shown President Harold McGee makes the presentation on stage. (circa December 24, 1990)
