Abstract
Mary Elise Mason (1880-1958) was a native of Athens, Alabama, residing the entirety of her life in the historic Beaty-Mason home at 211 South Beaty Street, built by one of Athens’ founders, her great-grandfather, Robert Beaty. She is buried in Athens City Cemetery. She was an active member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and she attended Athens College (now Athens State University), majoring in art. An avid historian, she compiled various histories, including historical scrapbooks of Limestone County which are now held by Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society (neags.com). The Limestone County Historical Society published the scrapbooks (9 total) as a single compiled volume in 2010.
This collection is comprised of correspondence to Miss Mason, primarily upon the subject of genealogical research.
