Announcements, Bulletins & Catalogs | Undergraduate

During its various incarnations as the Jacksonville State Normal School, State Teachers College, State College, and Jacksonville State University, JSU has produced a variety of publications under different titles which are essentially the equivalent of modern course catalogs. The earliest of these publications include a great deal of historical information about the school, from lists of enrolled students and club officers, photographs of athletic teams and literary clubs (precursor to the type of information later found in yearbooks), and other historical materials, such as notes on faculty and campus facilities.

Announcements & Bulletins. Published quarterly (October, December, March, and June) beginning during the Normal School years (1883-1929), announcements & bulletins appear to have been advance publications geared towards recruitment of students. They contain basic information about the school, its location and situation, as well as the academic calendar, terms of admission, fees, photographs of facilities and student groups, essays by faculty, news and notes on campus events, and more.

Catalogs. During the Normal School period, catalogues were included annually with the "Announcements" that went out about the upcoming academic year. They are not only catalogues of courses, but also of students: in them can be found lists of current students as well as alumni and detailed information on courses of study. They also often contain much of the same information as the bulletins, resulting in overlap between the two.
