Description

The Jacksonville State Normal School mascot was the eagle owl from the 1800s until 1946. After the 1946 football season head football coach Don Salls had the football team vote on a change of mascot and school colors. E.C. "Baldy" Wilson and Sprayberry offered that the mascot should be a gamecock. Shown an open book page depicts and describes eagle owls. (circa October 23, 1986)
