Photo circa 1827-1864 (subject's graduation from West Point to his death). A man, from the shoulders up, in a double breasted military jacket with epaulets. Captioned “General Polk.” He was appointed a major general in 1861 and promoted to lieutenant general in 1862. (circa 1861)
