Description
The State Normal School was established on February 22, 1883 as Gov. Edward O'Neal signed into law a bill. In 1899, after the county seat moved to Anniston, the State Normal School moved to the former Courthouse Building, shown left. Alleghany (Iron Queen) Hotel was rented as a dormitory or boarding house to the State Normal School, shown right. In 1917 it was destroyed by a fire. (circa 1907)
