Description

A 1,000 acre site on Chandler Mountain was acquired by the North Alabama Methodist Conference and named Camp Sumatanga. Working on the site of Camp Sumatanga are, from left, Billy Peace, Jacksonville State College student, Rev. Allen Montgomery, pastor of the Jacksonville Methodist Church, Mary Louise Kile, JSC student, Rev. David Hutto, executive secretary of the camp, Dr. J.M. Gibbs, superintendent of the Anniston District, and Dr. C.R. Wood, lay leader of the Anniston District. (circa May 10, 1951)
