Sam Whiteside was a student at Jacksonville State College (now Jacksonville State University). Student Government Association President Bill Anderson presented baseball catcher Sam Whiteside with a trophy after being named Most Valuable player among the 1960 Gamecock baseball team. (circa November 7, 1960)
