Description

The State Normal School, established on February 22, 1883, acquired the facilities of Calhoun College along with 12 acres of land. In 1899, after the county seat moved to Anniston, the State Normal School moved to the former Courthouse Building until the school outgrew it. The old Calhoun College building was renovated and incorporated as a wing of a newly-constructed building christened Hames Hall in memory of Captain William M. Hames, first president of the Board of the Normal School. Shown is the building before the renovation. (circa 1899-1901)
