Selected by the Jacksonville State University publicity department, Gems of the Hills were chosen for their attractiveness, poise, and charm. Alice and Linda Amos were chosen as Gems of the Hills in January 1963. Physical education majors from Gadsden, they are shown packing their Marching Ballerina uniforms to travel to Montgomery with the Southerners Marching Band. (circa January 14, 1963)
