Description
Built in 1939, Abercrombie Hall, first apartment dormitory, was named for John W. Abercrombie. Abercrombie served on the state board of education for a number of years and later became president of the University of Alabama. Abercrombie Hall was the first light-housekeeping facility provided for students. The apartment dormitory had suites of two bedrooms with a kitchen between them. It was also home to President Houston Cole and family prior to the completion of the President's House. Shown is the front and side exterior of the building. (circa 1940s)
