The annual ROTC awards day was held at Jacksonville State College (now Jacksonville State University) May 10, 1963 on the parade ground. Receiving the Scabbard and Blade Award for "outstanding cadet" were Cadet Capt. Eugene Gates, MSIV; Cadet First Lt. John Coggin, MSIII; Cadet M/Sgt. Michael McGuire, MSII; Cadet Larry Payne, MSI.
