An annual event, the Scabbard and Blade Ball was held November 2, 1961 in the Leone Cole Auditorium at Jacksonville State College (now Jacksonville State University). Shown Cadet First Lt. D.E. Tate, Cadet Captain James Bentley, Cadet First Lt. Sam Houston, and Cadet Lt. Col. Jimmy Avery form a sabre arch for Cadet Col. Tommy Whatley, center, and his partner Roslyn Ellison.
