Marion Coffee, winner in the annual "Miss Jacksonville" contest, was crowned by Jacksonville State Teachers College President Houston Cole. She represented Daugette Hall dormitory. The recognition and announcement took place during the annual summer carnival held August 3, 1943 on the college campus. The carnival was sponsored by Margaret Stapp and Maude Luttrell of the faculty.
