Description
Jacob Forney IV was a member of the first graduating class of the Jacksonville State Normal School in 1886. He received an A.B. degree in 1889 and an M.A. degree in 1892, both from the University of Alabama. Forney was the Noble Institute for Boys principal 1890-92 then he was assistant at the State Normal School as well as teacher of mathematics a year before becoming the president of the school in 1893. In 1899 he left to become the first appointee to the Chair of Psychology and Pedagogy in the School of Education at the University of Alabama. Forney Hall, men's dormitory on the State Normal School campus, was named in honor of President Forney and wife Mary C. Forney. (circa 1894)
